Scene in a box Poject

For a scenic design class we were given a project to choose one of the given audio files and design a scene in a box that portrayed that audio. For me it was an instrumental piece with flutes, chimes, and a harp. It felt very natural and relaxed like a picnic hike through a forest.

So I used layers of foam to build a pond and mountain side. Then I used wax based clay to cover the foam creating the colors and making it water proof. Then in the bottom of the mountain I mounted in a set of batteries and small water pump. I routed a vinyl hose up to the top of the mountain and made a path for the water to flow down creating a waterfall. The top of the box had some layers cut to create a breakup pattern in the light shining into the box like light coming through a forest canopy.

Before the presentation I filled the pond with water and started the pump. Then the viewer would look through the hole in the front of the box to see the scene. I was unable to capture a good photo through the viewing hole, but with the eye it looked like the scene you would see as you were hiking to the pond.
