Papercraft Knife
I found a cool file for a papercraft version of the knife from Halo. Making it was a bit of a test on if my method of manufacturing the parts with my laser cutter would work, and it did beautifully. I was able to slice through cleanly with only a small bit of singing on the edge, and even more importantly I was able to tune the power just right to score without slicing through so they have perfect sharp bends. I think this was my first adventure into aligning printed pages in the laser cutter.
This file also turned out to be a great test of skill because it has some small bits to attach for the offset layer in the sheath. Even harder was gluing the blade on strait, flat, and level. Then gluing in the sheath liner was terrifying; I slid the liner onto the blade and carefully slid it into the sheath. I tacked the two sides and waited for those to cure in place. Then I did the long edges one at a time while making sure the liner was centered in the sheath.
The pictures were taken much later when I was showing someone some of the other paper crafting I had done.
This took way more Zen than either Zen cube.
